Aldi, the supermarket chain, has revealed plans to open a series of new stores within the next 24 hours. The retailer, which currently operates over 1,070 outlets, will unveil new locations in Uxbridge and Old Kent Road in London, as well as Northallerton, Pershore on Thursday 11th December, and a fresh store in Yate, Bristol on Friday 12th December.

The company stated that customers in these regions will have access to Aldi’s fresh British produce and its sought-after range of exclusive Specialbuys.

Opening five stores in a single day showcases the scale and pace of Aldi’s ambition as it strives towards its goal of operating 1,500 UK stores.

The retailer, recently crowned Christmas Retailer of the Year for the sixth consecutive year at the Quality Food Awards, is investing £650 million in new openings and refurbishments in 2025, with an additional commitment of £1.6 billion over the following two years. This investment will support the launch of approximately 40 new stores annually.

This expansion announcement comes as Aldi retains its title as Which? Cheapest Supermarket for November – a distinction it has held for four years running. 

Collectively, the five new stores will generate around 200 jobs, all offering Aldi’s industry-leading pay rates. Aldi also maintains its status as the only supermarket to offer paid breaks for all store colleagues, equating to nearly £1,475 per annum for the average store colleague.

The Aldi stores opening on Thursday 11 December are:

• Harefield Road, Uxbridge
• Old Kent Road
• North Moor Road, Northallerton
• King Georges Way, Pershore

And the Aldi store opening on Friday 12 December is:

• Link Road, Yate, Bristol

Aldi has announced plans to open 16 new stores by Christmas 2025, with the first set to launch in just a few days. The supermarket giant revealed that these new outlets will all be operational between Thursday 6 November and Friday 12 December.

The new stores will be located in various locations across the UK, including Liverpool, Kirkintilloch in Scotland, Cheadle in Staffordshire, Billericay in Essex, and Kentish Town in London. The fourth-largest supermarket in the UK is investing £650 million across the country through its store opening and refurbishment programme in 2025, creating approximately 40 jobs at each new site.

In addition to this, Aldi recently declared its intention to double down on its investment with a commitment of £1.6 billion over the next two years, resulting in the opening of 40 stores annually.

In anticipation of the Christmas rush, Aldi has initiated a bold recruitment campaign to employ over 4,500 store colleagues across the UK. These new team members will be instrumental in replenishing stock, aiding customers and ensuring the smooth operation of stores during one of the retail calendar’s most hectic periods.

New store colleagues will also reap the benefits of Aldi’s status as Britain’s top-paying supermarket, with Store Assistants earning from £13.02 an hour nationally and from £14.35 inside the M25 from September 2025.

Asda is set to launch nine new Express convenience stores within the next 10 days, in a bid to bolster its presence in high-traffic urban areas, residential neighbourhoods, and transport hubs. Seven of these new stores will be opening in London this week, located at Tower Bridge, Greenwich, Limehouse Station, Harringay, Deptford, Whetstone, and the former Arsenal FC club shop at Finsbury Park station.

In addition to the capital, two more stores are also set to open in Botley (Southampton) and Stoke. Each of these Express convenience stores will stock over 3,000 branded and own-label products. They will also feature Costa Coffee machines, ATMs, Amazon collections and returns, and on-demand delivery options through Uber Eats, Just Eat and Deliveroo, as well as electronic shelf edge labels (ESLs).

Earlier this month, Asda launched a new Express store in Castleford, marking the beginning of the latest phase of its expansion programme.

The supermarket behemoth has plans to launch an additional 10 Express stores before the year’s end, with a robust pipeline of further openings slated for 2026.

The ESL technology also helps to display allergen information at the shelf edge through QR codes, in addition to displaying the cost, weight and unit price of products. 

It comes after the grocer recently announced it would launch up to 20 new Express stores before the end of the year as part of its convenience store opening programme.

Sutton continued: “We’re continuing to invest in enhancing our stores, and the launch of cutting-edge technology across our Express estate is proof of this.
