A British pizza company has collapsed into administration after trading for more than three decades. Millennium Dough Company specialised in making wholeseale artisan frozen pizza dough from their West-London base.

Based at Taunton Rd, Greenford, they had focused on using high-quality ingredients and traditional baking techniques, according to Best Food Importers. “Their expertise lies in long fermentation, craft flours, and new product development, catering to the unique needs of restaurants and food service companies,” it said. Formerly known as Millennium Food Service, the business had stellar five-star Google reviews, with one noting they had “excellent fantastic staff”.

Companies usually enter administration to deal with financial distress and insolvency, which occurs when a business cannot pay its debts, or when liabilities exceed assets.

The insolvency practitioner takes control to either rescue the business, restructure its debts, or sell off assets to maximise payouts to creditors.

Millennium Dough’s latest accounts revealed that while it generated a substantial £1.7million in profits in the year to October 2024, the amount it owed to creditors roughly doubled in 12 months.

By October 2024, creditors were due £1.5million witihin a year, compared to £751,052 for the same period in 2023.

Many hospitality and catering businesses have fallen into administration or finanical difficulties recently. While this company has not released a statement on its individual circumstances, food and catering companies are often vulnerable because of volatile ingredient costs, which can be impacted by the fluctuating price of fuel, rising utility bills and commercial rents.

Soho Gourmet Group, registered at Avery Hill Road in London, had supplied mobile kitchen trucks, kitchen trailers and mobile pizza ovens to the film and TV industry.

Around the same time, Aberdeen-based Foodstore Limited, trading as King Foods, collapsed into administration, with all 40 jobs lost.

The company had reportedly been struggling with financial crisis over a number of years, owing more than £1million to banks and £1m to creditors across a range of businesses across Scotland, according to documents seen by The Herald.

A construction firm run by two bosses who have previously carried out work for Wetherspoon and JD Sports has been wound up. Juma Construction Group’s Matthew Hoyes and Julian Kirkpatrick have a combined 40 years worth of experience in the industry, according to the company’s website.

But the business based in Bolton, Greater Manchester, has been voluntarily ended after a special resolution was passed and joint liquidators appointed. Craig Johns and Jason Elliott from business advisory, Cowgills, are overseeing the process, which involves selling off assets, paying off any creditors and dishing out any funds to those who have a share in the firm.

Other firms Juma Construction Group’s directors have worked for under previous employers include BT, Sports Direct and Revolution Bars, the company website states.

The company offered office fit outs, renovations, refurbishments, gas and civil engineering.

According to the business, this included the design and build of a training facility at John Leggott College in Scunthorpe and a four month long fit out of The Bridge Hotel for Ask Drinks Ltd.

Juma Construction Group and Cowgills have been approached for comment.

News about the company, published by The Gazette on Monday (June 8), comes after the latest figures showed output in Britain’s construction industry declined at its fastest rate since Covid last month.

Worries about the Iran war as well as political uncertainty weighed on demand for building work in May, with the S&P Global UK construction PMI showing a reading of 38.2 – a steep decline from 39.7 in April.

A reading above 50.0 indicates activity in the industry is increasing while anything below means it is contracting.

The latest score was the lowest since May 2020, while construction output has been in decline for about a year-and-a-half despite the Labour Government’s manifesto pledge to build 1.5 million new homes by 2029.

S&P Global’s survey found elevated uncertainty about the economic and political climate was dampening demand, while firms were grappling with rising energy, fuel and transportation costs.

Builders surveyed suggested project delays and pushing back big investment decisions, as well as general cutbacks to their customers’ budgets, had resulted in fewer opportunities for work in May.

Some also pointed to political uncertainty having an impact on demand conditions, after Sir Keir Starmer fought to stay on as Prime Minister amid calls from Labour MPs for his resignation.

Max Jones, Head of Construction at Lloyds, said earlier this month: “While ongoing uncertainty weighs on output, many firms are staying focused on current work and planning for future growth.”

He said companies were continuing to invest in skills to be ready for new opportunities linked to cleaner energy and growing areas of importance, such as defence.

A Glasgow brewery founded in 2018 has plunged into liquidation after being wound up earlier this year. Overtone Brewing Ltd, known for its colourful beer cans and craft beers, appointed liquidators on May 21, according to filings today on the public record, The Gazette.

Founded by Bowei Wang and Dan Miller in Yoker, it had produced “bold” and “amplified” New England IPAs from its Glasgow base on the Albion Industrial Estate for nearly 10 years. Avid fans described it as “comfortably one of the best breweries in Scotland if not the UK” when reviewing the beer online. However, George Lafferty of restructuring firm BTG Begbies Traynor was appointed as its liquidator this month.

Overtone was wound up by the courts in February and made to appoint Mr Lafferty as an interim liquidator. According to STV, the business had accumulated unsustainable debts and was unable to secure further investment.

However, it appeared Overtone was saved after its business and assets were acquired by Inn House Brewery Company, another Glasgow brewer that has been around for more than 40 years.

At the time, Thomas McKay, a partner for BTG Begbies Traynor, said: “Following a review of the financial position of the company it was no longer sustainable to continue to trade due to the level of accumulated debts, and with no viable investment available, the company directors took the decision to place the company into liquidation and cease to trade.

“The business and assets were acquired by Inn House Brewery Company, who have since approached some of the affected workforce to assess future employment.”

Businesses appoint liquidators for many reasons, including falling sales, rising costs, or overtrading. Liquidation is the process of bringing a business to an end by selling off its assets to convert them into cash. This cash is then used to pay off creditors and satisfy debts.

Other businesses in the beer trade have also fallen into liquidation this month. The Sorcerer’s Watering Hole in Brentford appointed liquidators on May 15.

The pub industry has been hit hard with closures in the last few years as it struggles with rising costs. Approximately two British pubs closed a day in the first quarter of 2026, according to the British Beer and Pub Association (BBPA).

Fans of a British beer brand have expressed their disappointment after it was pulled from supermarket shelves. The range of pale ales, IPAs and stouts was sold at Asda, as well as in smaller and independent alcohol retailers. However, after the brewery went bust, supply to UK supermarkets has been paused. Overtone Brewing Co., based in Scotland, announced it entered liquidation last week. 

The company became known for its unique craft beers, packaged in eye-catching designs. The brand is set to be taken over by a new owner, but it has paused beer supply to supermarkets and smaller shops for the time being. A notice was published in The Gazette on Tuesday, revealing that liquidators were appointed on February 13. George Dylan Lafferty, an insolvency practitioner of Begbies Traynor, has been appointed Provisional Liquidator of Overtone Brewing Ltd, the notice revealed. 

Fans and suppliers have shared their disappointment in the news. One shop that sold Overtone beer, The Wee Beer Shop, shared a post on social media about the liquidation news. 

“What a shame – they produced some of the best IPAs in the UK a few years ago,” the post reads. 

“If you have a hankering to try one last beer, their latest – Stovies – is as good as some of the ones they brewed in the past. I still have cans for sale.”

Another customer shared: “Awful news, I loved Overtone. Normally, they’re the only decent craft on draft down in Ayr.”

No formal closure of the brewery has been announced, but it has been confirmed that it’s pausing beer supply to supermarkets and off-licences across the country, with no return date announced. 

When searched on Google, it is labelled as temporarily closed. “Overtone is undergoing liquidation, but a new owner will continue to operate the brewery and brand in the future,” a spokesperson said.

Another customer called it “awful news”, while another simply said: “Sad times”. 

Liquidation is a legal process to help a company sell off its assets. Most of the time, the final result is the closure of the company and a cease in trading and/or operations. 

The money raised from selling off these assets is then used to pay creditors when they can no longer otherwise pay.
