High street brand Poundland has launched a huge sale to thank customers as it prepares to close 18 of its stores across the UK. The saving store announced its renovation plans earlier this year, committed to closing stores in Burnley, Leicester, Peckham, and Twickenham from this weekend. They announced the alarming closure of 68 stores, of which 57 would shut before September 28, 2025.

Customers will be able to secure deals of up to 40% off, which will include clothing, health and beauty products, homeware and groceries. This clearance is one step in the brand’s recovery plan to remain on Britain’s high streets. In August, Poundland’s plan was accepted by the High Court, preventing the retailer from impending collapse — just days before their funds depleted.

With the closing down of 11 additional stores placed on hold, the sales will permit the brand time to develop its best-performing sites. When restructuring began, Poundland ran 800 stores; however, this will now be reduced to under 700. Darren MacDonald, the brand’s Retail Director, commented on the clearance, saying: “These special reductions, on top of the value we offer day-in-day-out across our wider network, will help us leave these locations with pride. When our doors close in these locations, we’ll look forward to welcoming customers to one of the hundreds of Poundland stores we’ll continue to operate right across the UK,” he added.

Responsible for 14,700 staff, Poundland has suffered financial pressure in recent years. The new owners of the company, Gordon Brothers, who bought the company in June for an unbelievable — and on-theme — £1, told of their investment plans, which included £90million. With plans to cut 1,000 jobs and close two warehouses, which will affect 350 workers, the restructure will affect Poundland’s online customers too, as its website and frozen food aisle are to close too.

Additionally, nearly 180 stores will experience rent cuts. The Sun suggests that some bargains may even be marked up to 90% off. This follows news of the store returning to its roots after backlash on products not reflecting the name, suggesting £1 deals.  Their groceries will now include prices under £3.

Note that stores in Irvine’s Rivergate Centre; Brighton’s London Road; Anniesland’s Great Western Road; and Whitby have all been marked as upcoming closures currently on hold.
