A long-established London picture framing company that has served customers for half a century has entered administration.

Alec Drew Picture Frames Limited, a specialist fine art framing business based in Chelsea, was placed into administration on June 1, 2026, according to a notice published in The London Gazette.

The company, which was incorporated in February 1976, operated for 50 years from its premises on Cale Street in Chelsea and built a reputation for high-quality framing services.

The appointment of joint administrators Ian Robert and Christopher Purkiss of Moore Kingston Smith & Partners LLP was confirmed by the High Court of Justice Business and Property Courts of England and Wales.

A notice issued following the administration stated that the affairs, business and property of the company are now being managed by the joint administrators, who act as agents of the company.

Customers have been informed that the business is no longer accepting new work and is open only for collections. Items can be collected from the premises between 10am and 5pm Monday to Friday and from 10am until 2pm on Saturdays.

Alec Drew Picture Frames was widely known within the art and framing sector for its museum and conservation-standard work. The company offered a broad range of framing services, from simple wooden mouldings to bespoke handmade gessoed and gilded traditional frames.

Over five decades in business, the firm established itself as a respected neighbourhood picture framer in Chelsea, serving collectors, artists and customers seeking specialist framing solutions.

The administration marks the end of a 50-year chapter for the company, which had become a familiar name in one of London’s best-known neighbourhoods.

No reason for the insolvency was given in the administration notice.
